During the winter holidays, I sit down to take stock of my year. When you let go emotionally, it helps you be empty and open for a magical new year ahead. So, here’s how to emotionally let go of 2019.
Well, it’s the end of the year! Personally, this time of year is when I get intense about reflecting. With the shorter days, and the holidays coming up, I’m already finding myself slowing down.
Something that I really love doing is taking the time to look back at how I’ve grown and all I’ve experienced in the past year.
When I spend time processing the year, then I can let it go fully so I can be emotionally open and empty for the new year!
So, here are some of the questions I ask myself to wrap up my year.
To start off, 2019 was a big year for me. After a long engagement, I got married in July. It went so well, and it was a huge relief to not be planning a wedding anymore lol.
Also, I decided to walk away from my day job back in May. I was sleeping less and less and getting more anxious on a daily basis. I had another remote job in marketing lined up, so I quit my day job and now I work from home!
While this was a huge leap to take, it was the best thing I could have done for my mental health.
A couple of other big things that happened were that I turned 30 (yay!). Also, I started this blog, which is something I’ve wanted to do forever! So, I’m very happy that I’ve kept it up.
Also, I had a big conflict with some of my loved ones, so that has changed the course of some of my family relationships for the better.
Next, I like to take stock of my emotions. If there is anything I might not have processed, now is the time I do so.
While you don’t necessarily need to relive the past year, it’s good to see how you feel in hindsight. Maybe there are a few things that come up that need to be resolved in your heart. Just check in with yourself!
If you’d like tips on processing your emotions, I wrote a few articles about that here, here and here.
After going over my biggest events, I like to think back to the person I was at the beginning of the year.
Personally, I was still getting used to my new city and new life in Montreal. Since I moved here from my hometown of Salt Lake City in 2017, my life wasn’t completely settled at the beginning of this year.
I would say that I’ve gotten less anxious over the year! I definitely feel a lot calmer and clearer than I was in January.
Also, I’ve gotten a lot stronger in my sense of self. I worked a lot on loving myself this year, so I can really feel my progress in that sense.
Once I’ve fully listed out all the ways I’ve grown, I like to keep the list somewhere that I can look back at it often. It becomes my win list of 2019. If you’d like to know how to make your own win list, I wrote a blog post about it here.
Looking back on the past year is one of my favorite traditions during the holidays. When I can fully let go of my past year, it clears my energy for the upcoming one. Then I can start setting goals for 2020!
What are some of the ways that you wrap up your year? Tell me in the comments!
Love,
Holly
