Sometimes it’s hard to get yourself motivated. Lately, I’ve struggled with it myself! Here’s what to do when you don’t feel like doing anything at all.
Lately, I’ve had some days where I couldn’t find much motivation to do anything. It’s really frustrating, especially when I have a long to-do list.
Honestly, I’ve had a lot of days like this in recent times. We’re living through a very difficult time period together as a collective whole. So, it’s very understandable.
If this is something you relate to, here are some ideas to cope:
First of all, take a break. Sometimes feeling “blah” is your body’s way of tell you it needs rest. So, just go with it and see if that helps.
Remember, we’re living through difficult times! It takes a lot of energy to cope with what’s going on in the world. So, give yourself a break. It’s ok.
Next, stop what you’re doing and give something else a try.
You can try going outside for a walk, distracting yourself with a video game, reading, or whatever sounds good to you.
Sometimes a little break will give you the boost you need to get back into it.
Long to-do lists can feel overwhelming. So, just focus on the tiniest thing you can do right now.
For instance, when I have an entire article to write, I’ll start by writing just the last paragraph. Sometimes, that inspires me to fill in the rest. Other times, that’s all I can get done. And that’s enough for that moment.
Sometimes it’ll even get the ball rolling so you feel capable of more. If not, at least you got a little something done.
Finally, check in with yourself.
Are you feeling this a lot lately? There might be deeper reasons you don’t feel like doing anything.
Personally, I take anti-depressants that help me cope and manage my mental health.
So, if it feels like a pattern, check in with your doctor to see if there’s anything you can do to improve how you feel.
Sometimes it’s hard to get yourself going. And that’s totally ok! Just remember – your worth doesn’t depend on how much you accomplish. So, take things slowly and be gentle with yourself. I hope these tips help you for your off days.
