Since it’s just an uncertain time for all of us, you’re probably having lots of feelings of uncertainty and possibly fear come up. So, I put together 3 free ideas for managing uncertainty.
Last week, the world seemed to shut down. And I happened to be in a hotel room in Toronto on a work trip with my husband.
Since I wasn’t at home, it made me feel pretty anxious. What was going to happen? Would our world survive? Could we get home safely? How long would this last?
It’s brought up so many emotions for me, so I want to share with you some ideas for managing all that uncertainty.
First, I really love affirmations because they’re so grounding. When you say positive things that you want for your current situation, it can bring a lot of hope to your heart.
Also, if you’re spending a lot of time alone right now, it can help to repeat affirmations once a day. Or even a few times throughout the day!
Here are some affirmations to help you feel safe and secure.
However, when you repeat them it’s also good to connect to the sentence and think about reasons why it actually is true for you.
For instance, when you say, “I am safe,” think of a few examples of how you’re safe in this moment.
When you spend time repeating affirmations and thinking of why they’re already true for you, it’s a nice form of self-love and will help you ground in uncertainty.
Another great way to manage feelings of uncertainty is with tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).
If EFT is new for you, it’s a technique where you tap on specific points on your body to release emotions. And it’s one of my favorites for managing uncomfortable emotions!
In fact, there was a study with war veterans who had PTSD and did tapping for it (in addition to regular treatment). And after one month of tapping, half of the tested group no longer had PTSD. (source)
Personally, I regularly tap with videos on YouTube. My favorite channel is called Tap with Brad, since he has hundreds of videos to choose from! I can almost always find a tapping video for what I’m going through.
So, if you’re experiencing feelings of uncertainty right now, tapping can help!
Finally, journaling has always been a tool that helps me manage my emotions. Lately, I’ve been writing every single morning when I wake up. And it really helps calm my brain for the day.
In fact, journaling has actually been shown to help improve mental health. When you spend time writing, you’re getting clear on your own thoughts and feelings.
Even 15 minutes writing is enough to help you feel better.
To help with this, I put together a worksheet to help you process your emotions in your journal.
It’s located here in my free Resource Library.
