Sharing is caring!
Well hello! As I’ve worked to improve my emotional health, I’ve tried many types of healing. And I’ve found value in both traditional therapy and energy healing. So, here are some of the benefits of alternative healing and traditional therapy.
First of all, I’m a big believer in doing whatever works for you to feel better emotionally. Whether that’s medication, traditional therapy or energy healing – I say to each his or her own.
Both energy healing and therapy have played an important role in my healing. So, I want to share the specific benefits I’ve personally gotten from both.
Since I started with alternative healing, we can begin there.
When I first started down the road of getting to know myself and taking care of my emotions, I began with alternative or energy healing.
Since I was just barely starting to be self-aware, going to therapy never even occurred to me. All I knew was that I wanted to improve my life and how I felt, and I wasn’t sure how to do it on my own.
So, when I made a friend that was a healer, I felt safe having a session with her.
While I had many sessions with this friend, I also tried a lot more with other healers I met. Here are all the types that I’ve tried:
Each of these are pretty different, and if there’s interest then I can go into the differences in a later blog post.
Honestly, I got SO many benefits from all of the energy healing I experienced. And it’s been an irreplaceable part of improving my emotional health.
First, I like that you get to talk to someone about what you’ve been going through. Since they’re not a medical professional, it feels a lot more open and casual.
Also, a lot of the healers I’ve had sessions with are either my friends or become my friends. So, it’s super comforting to go see your friend for a session, then feel much better afterward.
Second, energy healing made me a lot more open to hearing about my own issues. Since it’s not coming from a traditional therapist, I found it a lot easier to discuss my issues because it wasn’t “official.”
So, technically nothing was “wrong” with me when I was seeing a healer because they’re not qualified to put clinical labels on anything.
Another thing I liked about energy healing is that in some cases it’s much more affordable than traditional therapy. However, sometimes it’s a lot more expensive. It just depends on the type of healing you do.
Also, as someone who believes in spirituality and unseen things, I like that energy healing can incorporate that into a session.
Now, let’s take a look at therapy.
I started going to therapy after I was laid off from a job a few years ago. And I was also about to move to Canada, which I was very afraid of doing. So, I wanted to talk to someone during a difficult time.
Nowadays (about three years since then), I’ve been going to regular therapy.
However, I’ve had to try a handful of therapists before finding one that I feel safe with and truly enjoy talking to.
Like I mentioned, I’ve had to try not only different therapists, but also different types of therapy as well.
First of all, talking to someone about what you’re going through is almost always a relief.
Also, now that I’ve met a therapist I love, I feel very safe going to talk to her about all of my issues.
Additionally, since I’ve been seeing her for almost a year, she’s really gotten to know a lot about my history and background. So, the more I see her and talk to her about, the more she can connect everything together for me.
Another thing I like about therapy is the specific type we do together, which is EMDR. You can read about that here.
And since EMDR is literally rewiring your brain, I feel like I’m truly overcoming past trauma and improving my mental and emotional state.
Finally, my therapist uses her professional training to label very important behaviors that I’ve experienced from family members. Which is something I couldn’t get in energy healing.
For instance, when I learned that I had experienced narcissistic abuse from two members of my family, it changed my perspective. Then I was able to learn about it and take action to protect myself with these two individuals.
Honestly, I wouldn’t say that one or the other is better. It just depends on your personal preferences and what you need.
Personally, I’ve gotten so much from both options so I wouldn’t ever choose one over the other.
I would say to track your progress and keep an eye on how you feel after a certain amount of time.
Does going to see this person make you feel better after a few months? If not, maybe it’s not for you, or you need to find someone else.
At the end of the day, do whatever makes you feel better! You’re the only person who can decide that for you.
Have you tried both energy healing and therapy? What benefits have you gotten from them? Tell me in the comments!
